Things to note during the installation of water meters

2024-04-05

1. Security

1. Before installing a water meter on a newly laid pipeline, the debris in the pipeline must be washed clean before installation to avoid damaging the water meter or affecting the normal operation of the water meter after the water is passed through.

2. When installing a water meter, it must be considered that the water pressure and water temperature used on site are within the maximum operating pressure and maximum operating temperature of the water meter.

3. Water meters installed outdoors should generally be installed with a protective box and should not be installed in places exposed to sunlight or freezing to prevent external damage. In severe winter, water meters installed outdoors should have anti-freezing measures.

4. Consider anti-theft, especially for copper-cased water meters.

5. The location where the water meter is installed should also be protected from corrosive gases.

6. If the industrial water meter is installed near the boiler, a check valve should be installed behind the meter to prevent hot water from flowing back and damaging the water meter parts.

2. Convenience

The location of the water meter should be as convenient as possible for reading, and the convenience of maintenance and meter replacement should also be considered.

1. For water meters installed outdoors, it is very necessary to choose a dry, sand-proof, groundwater immersion-proof, and insect-proof location.

2. When the water meter is installed underground, in order to facilitate the replacement of the water meter, two stop valves must be installed at both ends of the water meter.

3. Correctness

The installation of the water meter must comply with the requirements for its working method. The installation orientation, dial orientation, and upstream and downstream straight pipe sections should meet the requirements for the use of the water meter.

1. Some water meters have installation method requirements. The H on the dial or nameplate represents horizontal installation, and V represents vertical installation. The absence of these two symbols means that it can be installed in any direction. The dial of the water meter should be upward and not tilted. The flow direction of the water meter should be consistent with the flow direction of the water in the pipe. Some water meters (such as volumetric water meters, etc.) can be installed in any direction.

2. The water meter should be installed so that the direction of the arrow on the meter case is consistent with the flow direction of the water in the pipe, and it should be installed coaxially with the pipe.

3. The dial of a horizontally installed water meter generally faces upwards and must not be tilted. You cannot adjust the direction of the reading water meter indicating dial just for the convenience of reading. Note: The reading indicator of some dry water meters can be rotated 360° to facilitate reading. When the water meter is installed vertically or tilted, the impeller shaft and the center line of the pipe must remain parallel.

4. The straight pipe sections upstream and downstream of the water meter must comply with the requirements of the instruction manual, especially for speed water meters. Horizontal propeller water meters and single-jet water meters have particular requirements for straight pipe sections. The downstream part of the water meter should be higher than the water meter (such as a faucet) or maintain a certain pressure so that the water meter always operates under the conditions of a pipe full of water.

5. Any pipeline downstream of the water meter should be higher than the water meter to ensure that the water meter works under full pipe flow conditions.
