Current Global Status of Smart Ultrasonic Water Meters
Asia: The World’s Largest Manufacturing Hub and a "Twin Engine" for Explosive Growth
Asia is the fastest-growing region globally for smart ultrasonic IoT water meters, characterized by large-scale adoption and rapid, leapfrog-style development.
China: As the world's largest production and export base for ultrasonic water meters, China also boasts the most mature market for their deployment. Major Chinese cities are currently undergoing a large-scale transition, replacing mechanical meters with NB-IoT (Narrowband IoT) ultrasonic water meters. Strict policy mandates regarding "pipe network leakage rates" are driving water utilities to utilize the high-frequency (second-level) data provided by ultrasonic meters for District Metered Area (DMA) management and real-time leakage analysis.
India and Southeast Asia: Infrastructure development is surging. Countries such as India and Vietnam—facing aging water supply networks and severe issues with water theft and leakage (high non-revenue water)—are bypassing traditional mechanical smart meters. Instead, funded by government budgets or international loans (e.g., from the Asian Development Bank), they are procuring ultrasonic water meters in large volumes. These deployments primarily utilize LoRaWAN or cellular networks, focusing on ensuring accurate billing and combating water theft.
